Presidential Constituency Borehole Scheme Launched to Avert Harare Water Crisis

President Mnangagwa has officially launched the Presidential Constituency Borehole Scheme in Harare as part of aggressive national efforts to avert critical water shortages in the capital city.
The scheme targets the drilling of up to 480 boreholes across the city, bridging the gap as the government works toward the final commissioning of long-term infrastructure projects like the Kunzvi Dam.

The initiative was launched in Budiriro North Constituency at Tendai Hall, an area falling under CCC National Assembly member Ms Susan Matsunga.
Inclusive Development
All 30 constituencies in Harare are set to benefit from the scheme, in strict alignment with the Government’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind. Notably, this massive rollout will prominently benefit constituencies currently represented by opposition party members.
The Drilling Targets
President Mnangagwa will oversee the drilling of 480 boreholes across Harare. With the total initiative aiming for a minimum of 450 to 480 installations, each constituency is expected to receive an average of 15 fully functional boreholes to cushion residents.
Harare Minister of State Charles Tawengwa clarified that the borehole programme is a temporary relief measure.
Kunzvi & Muchekeranwa Dams
“The Presidential borehole scheme is an intervention by President Mnangagwa while we are waiting for Kunzvi Dam (under construction) and Muchekeranwa Dam (completed), the boreholes will cover the gap,” Minister Tawengwa explained.
Commissioning Timeline
The Government is heavily focused on long-term infrastructure. Kunzvi Dam is nearing completion and is expected to be formally commissioned this year to drastically ease water shortages in Harare.
The event served as a rallying point for national unity and legislative backing for the country's development trajectory.

Zanu PF Central Committee member Dr. Kudakwashe Tagwirei called for unity across political lines: “President Mnangagwa is a unifier... We need to move in one direction as Zimbabweans.” He stressed the need to back Constitutional Amendment No. 3 to fully realize Vision 2030.

Presidential adviser Dr. Paul Tungwarara pledged further empowerment programmes across all constituencies, urging all stakeholders to come together to advance shared goals of national development.
High-Level Attendance
The launch was attended by key figures including Cde Tendai Chirau, Cde Idah Mashonganyika, Cde Voyage Dambuza, and various CCC parliamentarians, showing a broad base of engagement for the water project.
