Meet Ken Sharpe: The Visionary Behind Zimbabwe's Thriving Real Estate Landscape

Kenneth Raydon Sharpe, or simply Ken Sharpe as he's known to many, is more than just a Zimbabwean businessman. He's a symbol of perseverance, vision, and the incredible power of determination.

As the head honcho (Executive Chairman) of West Properties Company, Sharpe has carved out a remarkable path in the business world, leaving a lasting impression on Zimbabwe's economic strength.

Born in 1973, in what was then Rhodesia, Sharpe's early life was a blend of diverse experiences. His family moved to South Africa in 1978 but returned to Zimbabwe in 1980 after the country gained independence. This upbringing instilled in him a deep love for his homeland and a strong entrepreneurial spirit.

Sharpe's journey as an entrepreneur began at the young age of 17 in 1990. He started with a business focused on sweets and distributing food. Over the next two decades, this venture blossomed into the vast West Group Holdings Company. This company now holds a diverse range of businesses under its umbrella, including West Food Distribution, West Beverages, West Agencies, and many more.

One of Sharpe's most notable achievements is founding Augur Investments Ltd, a real estate development company that has significantly impacted how Zimbabwe's cities look today. Through Augur Investments, Sharpe has been instrumental in developing infrastructure, residential areas, and commercial properties. This has not only driven economic growth but also created new job opportunities.

Sharpe's innovative leadership and contributions to the business community haven't gone unnoticed. In 2021, he was awarded the prestigious Forbes Best of Africa Innovative CEO of the Year Award. This award recognizes his commitment to excellence and his ability to overcome challenges with creativity and unwavering determination.

However, Sharpe's journey hasn't been without its hurdles. In 2007, while on a family vacation in Canada, he faced a life-threatening skiing accident. The accident left him unconscious with severe internal bleeding. Defying all odds, Sharpe battled back from a coma five days later, making a miraculous recovery that became an inspiration to many.

Despite facing legal challenges in his career, including accusations of threats and property damage, Sharpe has remained committed to pursuing justice and acting with integrity. His dedication to ethical business practices and accountability highlights his unwavering commitment to upholding values even in the face of difficulties.
